Socioeconomic impact and Policy responses to new Epidemics and Pandemics: ASSET contribution

The Ebola epidemic in West Africa has confirmed the socioeconomic impact of infectious outbreaks and the lack of adequate policy responses, despite the strong efforts made in the last decade.

Some advices on the issue are provided by

“ASSET, A Resource in case of Infectious Threats”,

a leaflet that resumes some of the research, expertise and tools made available to public health authorities by ASSET (Action plan in Science in Society in Epidemics and Total pandemics).

ASSET is a EU funded project aimed to improve preparedness and response to epidemics and pandemics. It combines public health, vaccine and epidemiological research, social and political sciences, law and ethics, gender studies, science communication and media, in order to develop an integrated and transdisciplinary strategy.

The ASSET leaflet was handed to all the participants to the International Conference

“New Epidemics and Pandemics: socio-economic impact and policy responses”,

organized in Milan on 27th October by the Italian CNPDS (Fondazione Centro nazionale di prevenzione e difesa sociale, National Centre for Social Prevention and Defense Foundation), with the contribution of ASSET project.

Here, representatives of International authorities, such as EU and WHO, and experts in epidemiology, socioeconomics, human rights and laws, presented their views on the issue.
